Upcoming Gaming Consoles to Wishlist

2/24/2017

2017 is finally here, and along with it comes the excitement of looking forward to the new gaming consoles to be launched during the year.
This means we can finally stop talking about the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 exploding and the aux-less iPhone 7 and focus on what really matters: what gaming devices are going to be released this year and when we can get our hands on them.

Nintendo Switch

Picture
Nintendo fans: rejoice. Nintendo’s new gaming console, Nintendo Switch, is a convertible device that can be used as a home console or as a portable gaming system for on-the-go gamers.
Highlighted Features:Immersive Rumble + Touchscreen Technology
  • Enjoy your games in a whole new way with the 6.2 inch multi-touch capable touchscreen.
  • Feel the game as it rumbles in your hands and immerses you in the experience of a virtual world.
Extended Battery Life
  • Your new gaming console won’t stop until you’re ready to. Nintendo has packed their Nintendo Switch with a battery that lasts 6 hours on a single charge. Playing something action-packed and memory-heavy like The Legend of Zelda™: Breath of the Wild? You can expect around 3 hours before you have to plug-in.
Intuitive Multiplayer FunctionalityLocal Multiplayer
  • Through the use of Joy-Con(R) controllers, you can transform your gaming console into a multiplayer entertainment center.
  • Flick open the kickstand and use the controllers like a Wii controller or slide them back together into a traditional controller when you’re playing alone.
Online Multiplayer
  • Play online with thousands of other Nintendo Switch gamers on some of the games that will be exclusive to the Nintendo Switch like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Mario Odyssey.

Are you as excited to try it as we are? The device is expected to be released March 3, 2017. That’s only five Mondays away, fellow Nintendo aficionados.

Xbox Project Scorpio

Picture
Self-dubbed as “the most powerful console ever built,” Microsoft’s Xbox Project Scorpio is the latest and most advanced addition to the Xbox One gaming systems. Microsoft has done a good job of keeping this device’s specs under wraps, but here is what we know so far:
  • True 4K gaming
  • 6 Teraflops of graphical processing power
  • 8 CPU Cores
  • 320 GB/s Memory bandwidth
  • Compatibility with Xbox One games and accessories (Phew!)
With this upcoming gaming console’s killer graphical processing power and 4k gaming, it is evident that Microsoft wants to launch Xbox into the future of virtual reality gaming.

Project Scorpio is expected to be released during the 2017 Holiday Season. I’m afraid we can’t hold our breath for this release.

SmartThings: the Best of Home Automation?

Picture

What Are SmartThings?

With the advent of IoT and smart home capabilities, Samsung’s SmartThings made its debut at the perfect time. SmartThings devices are able to communicate with one another via the Internet – unlocking a world of possibilities with its accessible and advanced open platform.

What Works With SmartThings?

  • Voice activated devices like Google Home and Amazon Echo
  • Phillips Hue devices like Phillips Hue Go and light bulbs
  • Netgear home security cameras
  • Honeywell thermostats
  • Bose speakers and entertainment systems
  • Samsung smart home appliances

What Do SmartThings Do?

Picture
  • Control lights, thermostats, doors and cameras via motion sensors
  • Notify users of home activity and send security alerts
  • Communicate with other smart devices for Samsung home automation
  • The possibilities are endless with IoT connected devices like Samsung’s SmartThings

SmartThings: Built by Developers, for Developers

Picture
SmartThings utilizes an open development platform to give developers the power to create IoT devices within the SmartThings ecosystem.
With SmartThings, developers are able to:
  • Create apps that allow users to connect devices, actions, and external services to create automations (using the Groovy programming language)
  • Integrate new devices into the SmartThings ecosystem
  • Publish applications and device integrations to the SmartThings catalog
Using SmartThings’ web-based IDE and simulator, developers are able to create, edit, test, and publish their SmartThings code for other users to use or even modify themselves. Developers have total autonomy over what they can create.
Not a developer? No problem. SmartThings is also integrated with IFTTT for everyday and power users to become masters of IoT – without writing a single line of code.

The Future of Smart Home Connectivity

Picture
Samsung SmartThings has clearly shaken the smart home industry by creating products that make everyday tasks easier.
The additions of the Google Home and Amazon Alexa’s voice-controlled devices like Amazon Echo and Amazon Dot – it’s clear that Samsung is heavily invested in smart home technology. So, what are Samsung’s next steps to take over the smart home industry? We’re thinking that SmartThings will grow its platform to include other third-party solutions (think: Lutron and Insteon devices).
It’ll be interesting to watch Samsung pursue more innovative solutions like SmartThings in order to keep up with the growing IoT industry.
